Exploring the impacts of war, Sam Marroquin delves into violence, destruction and the senselessness of conflict in her series, The Madness of War.
Through paint and charcoal she depicts times of endless waiting, the instant a bomb explodes, loved ones grappling with loss, or sifting through rubble that was once a home.
Gain an insight into Marroquin's process and motivation behind this powerful series. Cutting through the opinions, noise, and illusions of mass media, as she focuses her painting on humanity.
This film was made to accompany the exhibit Seeking Warmth, which explores humanity's need for emotional and physical warmth during times of genocide, war, oppression, and neglect.
Seeking Warmth not only features the work of Sam Marroquin but also includes Ceija Stojka, who examines her childhood as survivor of the Romani Holocaust and Daniel Baker who focuses on his creations as form of social agency.
Curated by Sharon Svec, the show is on view at Art at the Cave Gallery in Vancouver Washington, March 4-29, 2025.
